Measures to reach this goal were discussed at Tuesday’s seminar in Hanoi, where participants also sought ways to forge investment ties between Vietnam and Indonesia. Bilateral trade grew 5% annually to 5.6 billion USD last year.

Indonesian Ambassador Ibnu Hadi said the two countries have great potential to cooperate in oil and gas, coal, and cement and will expand cooperation in science and technology, communications, construction, tourism, and transportation.

He said: "Vietnam’s annual growth rate of between 6% and 7% suggests a great potential for trade development. Its economy is likely to develop strongly due to growing consumption demand, competitive consumer and industrial goods, and infrastructure development projects. Vietnam and Indonesia need to co-organize more seminars, business forums, and trade fairs to help bring bilateral trade turnover to 6.5 billion USD this year."

The Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam has established an exhibition house which introduces Indonesian products, culture and tourism.
