(VOVworld) - The Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany 67 years ago changed the course of history. Activities are underway in Vietnam to celebrate the event.

The Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association in Quang Ngai province organized a celebration for the Victory Day. In an address, Le Van Nhan, the Association‘s President, said the triumph over Nazi Germany brought about the end of World War II, the most destructive war in humankind’s history. The collapse of Nazi Germany created an opportunity for Vietnamese national liberation, opening a new period for Vietnam and its people. The Association is planning continued cultural exchanges, and exchanges of delegations combined with humanitarian programs.

In Ho Chi Minh City, an exhibition on the defeat of fascism has opened at the city’s Fine Arts Museum and will run until next week. More than 100 paintings, water-colors, and drawings selected from 1,000 works by Russian artist Iliukhin Boris Semionovich are on display. Ma Thanh Cao, Director of the Fine Arts Museum, says 'This exhibition is very special, coinciding with Vietnam’s 37th anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification. The works on display feature landscapes, war, patriotism and tributes to those who sacrificed for the world peace'.
