Ambassador Vinh met with Governor David Ige, who lauded the cooperation potential between Hawaii and Vietnamese localities in economics, trade, education, renewable energy, and climate change adaptation.

He visited the US Pacific Command (PACOM) and held separate meetings with US Pacific Commander Admiral Harry Harris, Commander of the US Pacific Fleet Admiral Scott Swift, and Commander of PACOM 25th Infantry Division Charles Flynn. Vinh spoke highly of the development of bilateral defense-security collaboration, with an expectation that both sides will continue to honor the commitments made in their memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation signed in 2011 and the 2015 joint vision on defense relations. Vinh urged for further cooperation in personnel training, dialogues, consultation, bilateral search and rescue missions, and UN peacekeeping activities.
