Among the members are 337 athletes who will be competing in 31 out of a total of 40 sports, hoping to win between two to five gold medals, as well as more tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Their goal is to secure two to five gold medals, with high expectations placed on sports such as sepak takraw, track-and-field, swimming, shooting, karate, Chinese chess, boxing, and archery, said Dang Ha Viet, director of the Sports Authority of Vietnam (SAV).

ASIAD 19 officially commences from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou of China. Vietnam will participate in a flag-raising ceremony held at the Asian Games Village on Friday.

Swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang has been selected as the flag holder for the Vietnamese delegation at the ASIAD opening ceremony.

In the previous ASIAD 18 held in Indonesia five years ago, the Vietnamese delegation surpassed their target of winning three gold medals, by taking home five gold, 15 silver, and 19 bronze medals, ranking 16th out of 46 participating members of the Olympic Council of Asia.
