Violence flares up in eastern Ukraine

(VOVworld) – Artillery fire by the Ukrainian army on Sunday damaged the buildings of the “Sail of Hope” orphanage and the Scientific and Research Institute of High Voltages in Slavyasnk city, eastern Ukraine. According to Slavyansk self-defense troops, the orphanage’s windows were shattered and its walls were riddled with bullets. Meanwhile at the institute, a mine exploded on the road in front of the building, breaking all the glass windows.

2 days earlier, Slavyasnk city was put on high alert as shells hit the neighboring village of Semenovka.

On Sunday, demonstrations were staged in Odessa city to protest at the punishment imposed by Ukraine’s interim government in the southeastern region. Hundreds of protesters, including children, raised banners saying no war and no fascism in front of the trade union building to commemorate the victims of a bloody clash in early May and call for an end to the punishment of the Donbass region.
