It will also cast votes of confidence on members of the Politburo and the Secretariat, and look into other important matters.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said the meeting is important to the realisation of resolutions adopted at the 13th National Party Congress, and offers an opportunity to look back on the achievements recorded since the beginning of the tenure and identify limitations, their causes, and lessons drawn.

Committee members will analyse opportunities and challenges, and propose policies and decisions for the second half of the term, said the Party chief.

Mr. Trong insisted on the importance of the votes of confidence on members of the Politburo and the Secretariat.

“It’s necessary to properly evaluate the quality, capacity, and prestige of these people through a vote of confidence which must ensure democracy, objectivity, justice, and transparency. We must not to allow violations nor use the voting to sow internal division or disunity,” said Mr. Trong.

The meeting will run through Wednesday.
