World leaders offer condolences over President Tran Dai Quang's passing

(VOVWORLD) - World leaders have sent condolences to the Vietnamese government over President Tran Dai Quang’s passing.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping on Friday extended condolences to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. He wrote that President Quang, a close friend of the Chinese people, promoted the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between Vietnam and China. He expressed his belief that the Vietnamese government and people will transfer their grief into strength and constantly make new achievements in the cause of socialist construction.

In his letter of condolences, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the contributions made by the Vietnamese President to strengthening the Comprehensive Partnership between Vietnam and Russia, as well as the bilateral cooperation for mutual benefits. Also on Friday, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also sent his condolences to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

US President Donald Trump also issued a statement expressing his condolences over the death of President Quang, saying the US will not forget his contributions to peace, security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region or his voice for Vietnam as a proud and independent nation on the world stage.

The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, the National Assembly and Government of Laos, and the Lao Front for National Construction has sent condolences to the Vietnamese government.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo expressed his deepest condolences, hailing Mr. Quang’s contributions to his country and people.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also sent sympathy message to the Government and people of Vietnam and the family of President Tran Dai Quang, saying President Quang deepened the cooperative relations between the two countries.

Republic of Korean President Moon Jae-in expressed his condolences at Mr. Quang’s passing away, adding he will do his utmost to develop the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, and Brazil offered the Vietnamese government with condolences.

In his telegram to the Acting President of Vietnam, Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, the Pope Francis said he was saddened to learn of the death of President Tran Dai Quang.
