At 11 a.m. when school finishes, 12 students of Tran Phu Primary School and Nguyen Trai Secondary School in Ia Dom village gather in  the kitchen of the Le Thanh International Border Crossing Station.

The kitchen has been maintained for three years for local disadvantaged students, partly through contributions from the border soldiers’ wages.

Ro Mah Khanh, an eighth grader at Nguyen Trai Secondary School told VOV: “first I was happy when the border guards gave me food. Now I feel at ease and the food is so delicious. The border guards also help me and others do exercises. We have been praised by teachers at school for our performance.

In addition to helping poor students, the soldiers of Le Thanh International Border Crossing Station have helped local villagers repair their houses, have cleaned up the environment, and have worked with the village patriarchs to ensure local security and social order.

Over the years, the station has considered public involvement a vital task. In addition to supporting the local authorities and public, the station’s soldiers have promoted friendship between Gia Lai province’s Mok Den hamlet and Ratanakiri province’s Bo Lon hamlet in Cambodia.

Captain Nguyen Van Quang of the Le Thanh International Border Crossing Station said: “the station’s command has implemented comprehensive measures with top priority to calling on the locals in the defense of national sovereignty and border security. We will continue to coordinate with Ia Dom authorities to develop the local economy and complete all new rural development norms. The most important thing is to work closely with local administration in communications on border marker planting and demarcation, ensuring that the people of the two border areas combine their efforts for a border of peace, friendship, and cooperation.”

Soldiers of the Le Thanh border station have recently financed the construction of three more houses for poor families in Cambodia’s Bo Lon hamlet.
