IPU President praises Vietnam’s preparations

(VOVworld) –IPU President Saber Chowdhury has spoken highly of Vietnam’s preparations for the international parliamentary event which is expected to welcome thousands of international delegates.

At Wednesday’s meeting in Hanoi with National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Chowdhury said he believed that with thorough preparations by the host nation, the IPU-132 would be successful, and make a deep impression on international friends.

President Saber also highlighted the importance of the meeting for the participating countries who are trying to reach more consensus in international deals.

He said that parliamentarians will discuss a series of important international issues including water, network security, and international law.

IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong said: “my colleagues who are coming to the meeting are very impressed by the very detailed preparations that have been made, not only logistically but also scientifically. The importance for us is that Vietnam is organizing the Assembly and this is an opportunity for Vietnam to showcase the progress that has been made. It’s also an opportunity for the global community to share with Vietnam their own experiences in better democracy and good governance.

When Ambassador, Director for Member Parliaments and External Relations at the IPU Anda Filip was in Hanoi to check on Vietnam’s preparations, she said: “I was in Hanoi 10 years ago. I was tremendously impressed by the changes in the city. It’s a very modern and very dynamic place. The facilities that we have seen are absolutely exquisite and I’m sure that all the delegates will very much appreciate the wonderful conditions for a successful Assembly in Hanoi. We have found a great deal of competence, professionalism and focus. And we think that the preparations are very good and on track for the Assembly in March next year.
