Cuba, US strengthen efforts in normalising bilateral ties

(VOVworld) – Cuba’s President Raul Castro delivered his very first speech at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly this week, calling on the US to lift the trade embargo on Cuba and return to Cuba the Guantanamo naval base.

Mr Castro said that the Cuban people should be compensated for damages caused by the US decades-old embargo. He added that the normalisation of US-Cuba relations would be boosted if the US lifted its trade embargo on Cuba.
Arkansas governor Asa Htuchinson became the first US governor to visit Cuba since America and Cuba restored diplomatic relations. Addressing a business conference in Havana on Monday. Governor Hutchinson said that his visit aimed to seek the most effective ways to boost trade co-operation between Cuba and the US and in particular between the state of Arkansas and Cuban localities.
