China, US discuss situation on Korean peninsula

(VOVworld) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and US Secretary of State John Kerry talked on the phone Wednesday about the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Wang called issues on the peninsula “sensitive” and called on all parties to remain calm, exercise restraint, and refrain from provoking each other. He insisted that China's reasonable and legitimate security rights and interests should not be undermined.

The two diplomats also exchanged views on bilateral relations and other regional and global issues.

They had a phone discussion while US-South Korean joint drills were underway. North Korea conducted its 4th nuclear test in January and launched a long-range rocket carrying a satellite in February, believed by the West to be a ballistic missile test.
