(VOVWORLD) - An art program was held on Sunday in Ha Tinh province to mark the 49th anniversary of Dong Loc T-junction victory and the 70th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day.

During the anti-US war of resistance, the Dong Loc area is of strategic significance as it used to be an artery for transport of food, weapons, and ammunition from North to South. Hundreds of people laid down their lives in Dong Loc T-junction including 10 young female volunteers.

At the program, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of heroic martyrs, war veterans, heroic mothers, heroes of the armed forces, and soldiers who have courageously fought for national liberation.

Mr. Phuc paid incense tribute to national young volunteer martyrs at a memorial house and at the grave of the 10 young female heroic martyrs and presented saving books for their relatives.

The Vietnamese Embassy and Vietnamese people in Laos offered incense in remembrance of heroic martyrs at the Laos-Vietnam Fighting Alliance monument in Keun village, Vientiane province, Laos, on Sunday. The alliance took on the mission of protecting Vientiane in early 1946.

Van Thi Minh, an overseas Vietnamese in Vientiane, says: “I’m moved by the sacrifice of Vietnamese soldiers for international missions. I burned incense to pray for the soul of these martyrs. I hope today’s young people will follow their example.”

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh on Monday laid a floral wreath at the Vietnamese Heroic Mother Monument in Tam Phu commune, Quang Nam province.

Quang Nam has nearly 15,000 heroic mothers whose children died for national liberation.

A film week was also held nationwide beginning on Monday to tribute war invalids and martyrs. The screened films include ‘Mat bien’ (The eyes of the sea) and ), documentary films, namely ‘Ta con gui lua trong than’ (I send fire in coal), ‘K10’, and ‘Tang sau binh yen’ (Deep Depths of Peace).
