(VOVworld) - Civic groups from the two Koreas agreed on Friday to hold joint events starting from next month to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the historic June 15th Declaration and the 70th anniversary of the Korean Peninsula's liberation from Japanese colonial rule.

A South Korean government official says the agreement was reached following a three-day meeting in Shenyang, China between delegations from the two sides.

Civic groups agreed to designate the two-month period from June 15 to August.

A communiqué issued after the meeting said that during this time joint activities and cooperative projects will be held to strengthen national homogeneity with the aim of reunifying the Korean peninsula.

Recently Seoul has pledged to boost various non-political inter-Korean events and exchanges in culture and sports to improve the tense inter-Korean relations.
