Dunford told a small group of reporters during a trip to Brussels that the US wants a more effective relationship with Pakistan despite the two countries’ differing opinions on several issues.

Meanwhile, Alice Wells, principal deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, met with Pakistani Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua in Pakistan. Wells underlined the need for strengthening intelligence cooperation to fight terrorism while Janjua said US-Pakistan relations need to be enhanced in an environment of mutual trust and respect.
