Covering an area of 15,000 square meters, Muong Pagoda in Ngu Phuc commune, Kim Thanh district, Hai Duong province, has 120 compartments. The pagoda includes a three-door gate, a front hall, an upper palace, an ancestors’ house, monks' house, corridors, and a bell tower.
Muong Pagoda has 4 tower gardens with 33 multi-tiered towers. It is the pagoda with the most towers in Hai Duong province.
The tower garden on the right (from the entrance) has 6 towers, mainly towers built from bricks.
The size and height of each tower depends on the morality and merits of the monk who is being worshipped.
The tower garden in the middle of the pagoda campus has 5 towers, mainly made from stone with the original architecture from the later Le and Nguyen dynasties.
There is a tower with a stone stele dating back more than 300 years. Some others are determined to be about 600 years old.
The tower garden on the left side has the largest number of towers including 7 high towers and 13 smaller ones.
Each tower has its own architecture, showing the different styles of different feudal periods.
Images of lotus and clouds are decorated on each tower with ancient inscriptions and typical patterns featuring each feudal period.
The tower garden at the pagoda gate has the least number of towers. Elders in Ngu Phuc commune said during the resistance war against French colonialists, the garden was destroyed by bombs so today there are only two towers.
Since 1980 many parts of the Muong Pagoda have been restored.
Muong Pagoda worships Buddha of the Truc Lam Zen sect and monk Tue Nhan, who is considered the village’s titulary god for his merits in reclaiming the land and founding the Muong village.
Muong Pagoda was recognized as a national historical site in 1992. Every year it welcomes thousands of tourists who visit and offer incense, especially during Spring Festival from the 24th to 27th day of the first lunar month.
