United Nations urges an end to the proliferation of weapons

(VOVworld) - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on all States other to intensify efforts to end the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and warned that the safety and security of everyone in the world is at stake.

Ban Ki-moon’s appeal was released on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Security Council Resolution 1540, which requires Governments to prevent non-State actors or terrorists from acquiring, proliferating and using nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. The United Nations stressed that over the last ten years, the Security Council Resolution 1540 has been an important factor in global security.  To date, nearly 90 % of UN member states have submitted reports on measures taken or planned to be taken to implement the requirements of Resolution 1540.
