(VOVwold) - The 2,290 metre Long Bien Bridge, having survived countless bombings, stands as a symbol of the nation’s courageous struggle for freedom. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, it was constructed in 1898 by the Dayde and Pille Company and opened to traffic in 1903.


The Bridge, formerly known as the Paul Doumer Bridge, has witnessed a lot of changes in Vietnam's transition from war to peace.
It is an ideal place for local people to exercise in the early morning or late afternoon.
Under the bridge is a land area along the Red River where local people plant bananas, corns, and vegetables.
It's associated with the image of the hard-working people traveling across it to earn a living.
The bridge is the best place to observe the sunrise or sunset and take nice photos.
Over the past century, the bridge has experienced many ups and downs.
Currently it connects Hanoi to the port city of Haiphong.
It also attracts a lot of international tourists and has become a popular tourist destination.
