The Asian Games officially opened Saturday evening at Paloma Mizuho Stadium, with an opening ceremony combining traditional Aichi and Japanese culture with modern technology.
Vietnam’s first medal came in Teqball, where Nguyen Hoang Minh Tan and Trinh Gia Nghi defeated India’s mixed doubles pair 2-0 in the bronze-medal match on Sunday morning. The Vietnamese duo won the two sets 12-9 and 12-6.
The medal marks a milestone for Teqball, which is being contested as a medal sport at the Asian Games for the first time. Minh Tan and Gia Nghi’s result also gave Vietnam an early podium finish in the tournament and brought greater attention to the emerging sport in Asia.
Vietnam then added a second bronze medal when Bui Ngoc Nhi finished third in the women’s individual kata event in Karate.
In the bronze-medal match at Toyohashi Gymnasium on Sunday morning, Ngoc Nhi defeated Singapore’s Leong Wai Yee Shannon 4-1. The result secured Vietnam’s second bronze of the Games and marked the country’s first Karate medal at ASIAD 2026.
