The opposition parties pledged to swiftly establish a “national emergency government” to replace the current administration led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The agreement was reached at a meeting of opposition leaders in Herzliya, ahead of consultations with President Herzog scheduled to begin on Wednesday. In a joint statement, the leaders said they are committed to respecting the voters’ mandate for a change of government.

They added that all five opposition parties will ask President Herzog to give Eisenkot a mandate to form a government, and pledged to move quickly to advance the process and avoid the need for another election.
