In a telephone interview with the Financial Times, Trump said he’s satisfied with the current situation, saying the US is making progress towards its stated goals.
Asked about signals from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggesting a possible attack as early as this weekend, Trump said the US is prepared to take action if necessary, but there might be no need to do so.
Trump said the US and Iran are not currently engaged in a full-scale war, and that previous US airstrikes mainly targeted Iranian nuclear facilities. He said indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue, including how to deal with the 450 kilograms of enriched uranium held by Iran.
Trump said he’s dissatisfied with the fact that the nuclear material is still there, despite its being buried beneath hundreds of tons of earth and rock.
