The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of teh Republic of Korea (RoK) said it detected the launch at around 3 p.m. local time from the Wonsan area on the DPRK's east coast.
The JCS said it has stepped up surveillance and readiness for additional launches and is maintaining a full state of military preparedness. It is also sharing information on the launch with the United States and Japan.
The launch came about a week after the DPRK fired another short-range ballistic missile from the same area toward the eastern waters on September 12.
Japan’s Prime Minister’s Office also said on X that teh DPRK appeared to have launched a ballistic missile. It reported no immediate casualties or damage from the launch.
