During a meeting with Thomas R. Hardy, Acting Director of the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), in New York on Monday, General Secretary and President Lam emphasized the need for USTDA to play a "path-finding" role starting from the project preparation stage, thereby helping Vietnam gain early access to American standards, technologies, management expertise, and resources.
The top Vietnamese leader also called on the US Agency to pay greater attention to emerging sectors characterized by high technology content and high value-added, such as artificial intelligence (AI), secure digital infrastructure, smart grids, energy security, and solutions for the green transition. He further requested that USTDA enhance connections between leading US technology, financial, and infrastructure firms and their Vietnamese partners.
For his part, Hardy said USTDA views Vietnam as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region and hopes to continue partnering with the country on the preparation and development of high-quality projects. He confirmed readiness to work closely with Vietnamese agencies to identify suitable projects and mobilize tools to support project preparation.
Hardy pledged to strengthen cooperation between USTDA and Vietnamese agencies and enterprises, focusing on specific, feasible projects with significant spillover impacts, while connecting Vietnam's development needs with US technologies, resources, and businesses.
