Pauline Tamesis, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, made the remarks in an interview with VOV. She said the Vietnam-UN relationship had evolved into a “two-way partnership”. The UN continues to support Vietnam in pursuing its development goals and aspirations, while Vietnam is increasingly contributing its experience, leadership and solutions to the global agenda.
Vietnam brings to multilateral cooperation its experience in national transformation, from post-war reconstruction and poverty reduction to economic integration and sustainable development, as well as lessons learned from its path to become an upper-middle-income country. An increasing amount of this experience is being shared beyond Vietnam’s borders through its contributions to UN peacekeeping operations, participation in the UN Human Rights Council and Security Council, and active engagement in the UN development system.
As Vietnam enters a new era of development, the UN hopes the partnership will continue to grow, Tamesis said. SHe said the partnership will support Vietnam’s aspiration to become a developed, high-income country by 2045 and to enable Vietnam to make greater contributions to peace, sustainable development and international cooperation.
