Mr. Lam called on the US to take a comprehensive approach to outstanding trade issues, particularly those related to investigations under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974. He said he hopes the two countries will continue to promote growth in their economic, trade, and investment ties.
During a meeting with Representative Gregory Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr. Lam called on Meeks and the US Congress to continue supporting bilateral ties and increase exchanges between delegations, specialised committees, friendship parliamentary groups, and congressional staff.
Mr. Lam called on the two sides to promote free, fair, balanced, sustainable trade and quickly conclude negotiations on a reciprocal, fair, balanced trade agreement. Vietnam also wants to strengthen cooperation with the US in science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, and high tech industries, he said.
He urged the US Congress to continue supporting cooperation in addressing war consequences, defence, security, local-level cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges, and called for favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the US to grow, make positive contributions to the US, and serve as a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
Congressman Meeks affirmed the importance of ties with Vietnam and parliamentary cooperation, and said he hopes to promote further exchanges between the two legislatures. He pledged assistance to Vietnam in addressing war consequences, including clearing unexploded ordnance, remediating dioxin contamination, supporting people with disabilities, and helping Vietnam carry out its 500-day campaign to locate, recover, and identify the remains of missing Vietnamese fallen soldiers.
