It’s an initiative championed by a core group comprising Vietnam, Cyprus, Italy, Laos, Qatar, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
On the social media platform X, UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany thanked Vietnam for spearheading this initiative, while Nayef Al-Fayez, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, welcomed the proclamation. “I wish to commend Vietnam for the vision and the leadership that made this milestone possible. I also thank all member states that came together and support this commitment,” he said.
Ambassador Kosal Long, Permanent Delegate of Cambodia to UNESCO, congratulated Vietnam and praised its role in initiating the draft resolution. Cambodia pledged to continue close coordination with Vietnam to promote international cooperation, capacity building, technical assistance, knowledge sharing, and strengthened partnerships, he added.
Ambassador Ahlem Gharbi, Permanent Delegate of France to UNESCO, expressed her strong support for the initiative. “France is delighted to co-sponsor the resolution recently adopted by UNESCO on the 'International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development.' This is a matter of particular importance, backed by the strong commitment of both UNESCO and France.”
“I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Vietnamese Ambassador to UNESCO, who played a pivotal role in driving this initiative forward. I extend my warmest congratulations to the Ambassador personally and to Vietnam on this significant achievement,” Gharbi said.
Ambassador Vishal V. Sharma, Permanent Delegate of India to UNESCO, applauded Vietnam’s diplomatic coordination and leadership in advancing this initiative.
