In 1972, the station replaced the Me Tri and Bach Mai transmission stations, which had been bombarded by US military planes, to serve both Vietnamese and American listeners during the 12 days and nights of fighting of the US bombing of Hanoi. It also aired broadcasts in English inside and outside Vietnam to encourage American soldiers lay down their weapons and to serve the Paris Conference.

Addressing a ceremony in Hanoi on Wednesday to mark the station’s 50th founding anniversary, VOV General Director Nguyen Dang Tien said:”Radio broadcasting and communications technology is developing rapidly. This requires technicians at CK2 and VOV in general to exert further efforts to master the technology. VOV will develop a master plan on radio transmission until 2020 and 2030 to fulfill our broadcasting tasks and at the same time upgrade our technology to meet the listeners’ demands”.
