500kV circuit-3 line soon to be in operation

(VOVWORLD) - The electric power sector is hurrying to put into operation the 500kV circuit-3 line stretching 520 km from Quang Trach in Quang Binh province to Pho Noi in Hung Yen province. The line through nine provinces has 1,177 transmission pylons.

The project to build a power line from Quang Trach to Pho Noi was approved by the 8th Power Planning to increase electrical power to northern Vietnam and ensure the safe, continuous, and stable operation of the national power grid.

The previously completed 500kV North-South circuit-3 line stretches 1,180km from Vung Ang in Ha Tinh province to Quang Trach in Quang Binh province and My Phuoc-Cau Bong in Pleiku city.

The additional 520 km from Quang Trach to Pho Noi will be completed soon, according to Do Duc Hung, Chairman of the Trade Union of Electricity of Vietnam.

“The Prime Minister's directive to construct the line from Quang Trach to Pho Noi deems it an important project that will ensure the supply of electricity to northern Vietnam, especially in the dry season. We have designed the project guided by the slogan "5 most" – most speed, most safety, most effectiveness, most quality, and most care for the workers,” Hung said.

Every component of the project has been completed on schedule and the construction units are hurrying to finish the project on time.

30 years ago, on May 27, 1994, at the National Electricity Management Center, Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet issued an order to connect the national electric grid with four units of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant at the Da Nang 500kV Station.
Since then the 500kV North-South circuit-1 line has resolved electricity shortages in the Central and Southern regions. The first 500kV transmission line in Vietnam stretches 1,487 km from Hoa Binh to Ho Chi Minh City.

Professor Dr. Tran Dinh Long, the project’s technical advisor, who is considered the chief architect of the 500kV circuit-1 line, said: “In less than three years of operation, the capital spent on building the 500kV line has been recovered. This is one of the largest power projects and it has had the fastest capital recovery time. Its economic efficiency is very clear.”

In 2004, 10 years after the first 500kV line, a second line 1,600km long was put into operation.
