Throughout Vietnam’s thousands of years of national construction and defense, patriotism and solidarity embracing Vietnamese national identity have been the cornerstones of national victories and achievements.
Foundation of national solidarity
In Vietnam’s history, the Hung King era, from the 7th century to the 2nd century BC, was marked by ambitious efforts to cultivate the land, expand territory, and establish the Van Lang state. The Hung Kings' legacy unites all Vietnamese, regardless of religion or ethnicity, under the shared belief of being “children of the Dragon and grandchildren of the Fairy." This powerful spiritual connection has been the soft power that is the source of Vietnamese resilience in withstanding foreign invasions and challenges.
The Hung Kings’ death anniversary is an occasion for all Vietnamese people, inside and outside the country, to join hands in boosting national development and fostering patriotism and national pride. This enduring spirit of unity has been evident throughout Vietnam’s struggles for national independence, social movements, and efforts to support vulnerable communities. In times of hardship, the strength of solidarity has helped the Vietnamese people overcome obstacles and emerge stronger.
In today’s era of deepening global integration, national solidarity remains more important than ever. It is both a foundation for preserving traditional cultural values and a driving force for reaching out to the world and growing stronger and more confident to enter a new era.
Bui Hoai Son, a standing member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, said: "The worship of the Hung Kings is deeply ingrained in the hearts of the Vietnamese people. This belief nurtures patriotism and fosters solidarity among Vietnamese communities inside and outside the country. The commemoration of the death anniversary of the Hung Kings is a testament to this enduring faith, bringing Vietnamese people around the globe together to pay tribute to their ancestral roots. This strengthens bonds of unity and patriotism and reinforces the synergy of the Vietnamese nation."
Unity is decisive to victory
Today, the Vietnamese people’s long-standing aspiration to stand on a par with the great powers is closer than ever under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. To elevate Vietnam’s position in the global order, it is essential to unite forces and harness the nation’s collective strength.
Party General Secretary To Lam says a top priority in this era of national rise is to combine national strength with the strength of the times. He has called for a powerful awakening of patriotism, a strong desire to contribute, and an unyielding spirit of self-reliance, self-confidence, and national pride.
At the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front last October, Mr. Lam said: "We need to reach a consensus on the role and special importance of the national unity bloc and the urgent need to strengthen national unity. This is one of the keys for entering a new era. History has repeatedly shown that great national unity is the foundation of Vietnam’s revolutionary successes. The greater the challenges and demands of the times, the more essential it is to strengthen unity widely and sustainably. Only through unity can victory be achieved."
The period from now to 2030 represents a decisive opportunity for the Vietnamese revolution to achieve its strategic goal under the 100-year leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which will create a strong foundation for realizing the goal set out for the 100th founding anniversary of the nation. To realize the national aspiration for a prosperous and happy future, it is vital to maximize the power of national unity and determination across the Party, the people, the armed forces, and the entire political system.
The vision and the path to socialism, chosen by President Hồ Chí Minh and upheld by generations of Vietnamese people, is gradually being realized. At the heart of the journey lies the enduring spirit of national solidarity, deeply rooted in Hung Kings worship and the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day—symbols of Vietnam’s unity and shared destiny.
