(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary To Lam has urged intellectuals and scientists to serve as pioneers and the driving force for national innovation. At a recent meeting with 200 intellectuals and scientists, the Party leader asked them to play a part in creating breakthroughs and accelerating Vietnam’s rapid and sustainable development in the new era.

Intellectuals represent the intelligence and talent of the people and the nation, forming one of the most critical resources to propel Vietnam toward breakthroughs and prosperity.
Intellectuals : pillars of national development
Vietnamese intellectuals have always been the vanguard force in enlightening people’s intellectuality, promoting revolutionary theory and applying science and technology.
They have been instrumental in spreading patriotic and revolutionary ideas, laying the groundwork for movements to fight for independence. Many intellectuals, scholars, scientists, and professionals made significant sacrifices—contributing their knowledge, wisdom, and even their lives for national independence and freedom and people’s happiness.
In the current era of national renewal and development, intellectuals have continued to leave an indelible mark, making a significant contribution to the nation.
General Secretary To Lam said: “Vietnam’s revolutionary achievements, particularly the significant progress made over 40 years of national renewal, have been significantly attributable to the contributions of intellectuals and scientists. Their advice has paved the way for reforming mindsets, especially economic thinking, helping Vietnam escape socio-economic crises and gradually integrate into the global economy. They have provided scientific foundations, proposed ideas, offered social critiques, fostered creativity, and produced inventions and innovations. These contributions have been vital in advancing national industrialization and modernization, promoting innovation, and proving their indispensable role in shaping Vietnam’s development.”
Intellectuals’ responsibility in empowering national strength
The world is now in a period of epochal development. The advancement of science and technology is driving global changes, reshaping cultures, awareness, and actions, while forming a new world order. These transformations show the especially important role of intellectuals and scientists in enhancing Vietnam’s intelligence and strength.
Intellectuals and scientists are tasked with the ambitious goals of having 100 globally ranked inventions, innovations, and scientific works by 2030; producing leading scientific, technological, literary, and artistic creations; and, by 2045, positioning Vietnamese intellectuals among the region's leaders and the world’s top contributors with hundreds of internationally influential scientists who earn prestigious global awards across diverse fields.
Speaking at a meeting with representatives of overseas intellectuals in the Francophone community within the framework of the 19th Francophone Summit last October, General Secretary To Lam said: “Our aim is to triple our economic scale from its current size. To this end, science and technology must lead the way and there is no alternative. Without science and technology, there will be no growth. The experience of countries like the US, China, and India proves this. We aim to take shortcuts and leapfrog forward—this is our opportunity.”
The Vietnamese government will implement sweeping reforms in the training, selection, utilization, and recognition of intellectuals and scientists.
Party leaderLam said: “We need to pay particular attention to and respect intellectuals, establishing clear regulations to honor and reward their contributions based on results and outputs aligned with the spirit of ‘serving the people.’We also need specific solutions to drive innovative thinking, enhance awareness, and achieve unity within the political system and society about the critical role and significance of developing a strong contingent of intellectuals in the current context.”
After 40 years of national renewal, which is posing new opportunities, the Vietnamese Party, State and people are expecting further contributions and dedication and significant breakthroughs from intellectuals and scientists. Science, technology, innovation, and creativity are the only way Vietnam can catch up, advance alongside global powers, achieve breakthroughs, and surpass them.
