With the theme "Effective Allocation, Management, and Minimization of Conflicts in the Exploitation and Use of Marine Space", the 2024 event aims to ensure effective sustainable management and use of resources, and protect the marine and island environment.

In Da Nang city, 63 activities are planned between June 1 and August 30. Two key activities will be cleaning roads, beaches, vacant lots, and areas to be used for the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival and dredging and clearing sewers and drainage ditches to reduce flooding during the rainy season.

On Saturday, the city’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Thanh Khe district People's Committee distributed equipment to residential areas and schools for the "Recycling Food Waste into Organic Fertilizer" project.

Other events include a painting contest to call attention to environmental protection and ocean plastic waste reduction, an exhibition of recycled products, and the purchase of recyclable waste and non-degradable plastic bags.

1,000 officials, civil servants, public employees, and Da Nang residents participated in these environmental clean-up activities.

Nguyen Duc Thien of Xuan Ha ward said: "We are participating in environmental sanitation, collecting trash on sidewalks, and cutting grass in vacant areas, to contribute to environmental protection and raise awareness of protecting the environment and Vietnam's sea and islands."

The Hue Plogging 2024 event took place at Thuan An beach in Hue city on Sunday with 350 joggers collecting nearly 2 tons of trash in about 4 hours along a 5km route from Thuan An beach to the An Hai Residential Group's community beach.

Until the end of June, Vietnamese localities will organize communications activities highlighting the significance of Vietnam Seas and Islands Week and World Oceans Day 2024. These activities will disseminate information about Vietnam's guidelines, policies, laws, and international regulations regarding seas and islands, as well as Vietnam's legitimate maritime rights and interests. Emulation movements and community activities such as sea clean-up campaigns and waste collection and treatment activities will be launched to reduce plastic waste.
