Reunification Day: 45 years on

(VOVWORLD) - On April 30^th, 1975, tanks of the the Liberation Army of South Vietnam broke the gate of the Independence Palace in Saigon, marking the end of years of the struggle for southern liberation and national unification.

Over the past 45 years, the Vietnamese people have overcome war consequences and striven to achieve social economic development.

Leaving the past behind and looking forward to the future, Vietnam wants to be a good friend, a reliable partner, and an active, responsible member of the world community. Vietnam has progressed its relationship with the US, who, despite the ups and downs in history, is now a comprehensive partner.
