Vietnam's rice exports to Singapore in the first 3 months of this year earned more than 26 million USD, up more than 80% over the same period last year, according to the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority of Singapore.

In addition to white rice, Vietnam’s sticky rice and milled fragrant rice now dominate the Singaporean market, with sticky rice having an 80% market share and milled fragrant rice a 73% market share. This put Vietnam ahead of Thailand and India in the Singapore rice market.

The Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore says Thailand, India, and Japan have been major competitors of Vietnam in Singapore. India's ban on rice exports since July 2023, has helped Vietnam increase its market share in Singapore.

The Trade Office has organized displays of Vietnamese rice in Singapore and has organized trips for Singaporean businesses to trade promotion activities in Vietnam.

To compete with rice products from India and Thailand, increase their market share, and maintain Vietnam’s top position, the Trade Office says exporters  need support from ministries, sectors, and local administrations and associations.

The Trade Office also suggests stronger promotion of product and corporate brands, increasing product presence in import countries, and continued improvement of product quality. It says the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Singapore will help Vietnam maintain its position as Singapore’s top rice supplier.
