The Department of Competitiveness of the Ministry of Industry and Trade received more than 1,600 complaints this year from consumers, mainly complaining about mobile phones, telecommunications services, and electronic home appliances. The number of complaints is increasing but consumers lack information about response agencies. A Department representative says state agencies and enterprises should both be involved in protecting consumers’ rights and fighting fake, low-quality goods. Cao Xuan Quang, head of the Consumer Rights Protection Section of the Department of Competitiveness, said: “State agencies, social organizations, and particularly enterprises and consumers need to get involved in protecting consumers’ rights. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has worked with relevant agencies to organize a Day of Vietnamese Consumers’ Rights. Each year the Ministry selects a theme for the occasion, In 2016 it was ‘Consumers’ Right to Safety’, and in 2017 it was ‘Enterprises work for the sake of consumers’.”

Under the theme “Sound business – sustainable consumption”, this year’s event will mobilize organizations and individuals to disseminate laws and policies on consumer protection.
