Vietnam’s game industry challenged by lack of high-quality human resources

(VOVWORLD) - The shortage of human resources is one of the main reasons hindering the development of Vietnam’s game industry, challenging the sector’s goal of earning 1 billion USD in the next 5 years, said Do Tien Thinh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Innovation Center (NIC), at a seminar in Hanoi on Tuesday on promoting high-quality human resources for the game industry.

“Vietnam's game industry is seeing opportunities. First, one of every 25 games on gaming platforms in Southeast Asia is made by a Vietnamese company. Second, the number of game companies in Vietnam has increased to several hundreds, compared to a very small number five years ago. In the past, Vietnam mainly imported games. Now we can develop them ourselves,”  said Thinh.

Jointly held by the NIC, the Gamegeek Asia Company, the Vietnam Game Developers Association, and LacBird, the seminar discussed solutions to the shortage of high-quality human resources for game production, job requirements and necessary skills for game developers and designers, and training programs requested by the market.

Participants urged Vietnamese regulators to devise long-term policies and strategies to incubate and nurture the workforce to develop the industry sustainably.

Scholarships in UX Research, Game Design, and Advanced Unity Game Programming were awarded to several lucky seminar attendees.
