(VOVWORLD) - As part of the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s working visit to China in June, Lang Son province of Vietnam and Guangxi province of China signed a framework agreement on the pilot construction of a smart border gate between the two countries. This is an important condition to boost border trade and strengthen goods clearance, thus contributing to the two countries’ socio-economic development.

Under the framework agreement, the smart border gate will be built at the Huu Nghi International Border Gate of Vietnam and Youyi Guan Border gate and between Tan Thanh of Vietnam and Pu Zhai of China. The smart border gate will be built using two models of smart air-rail transport and Automatic Guided Vehicles or AGV on the ground.
To prepare for the agreement, Lang Son has built a digital border gate platform that was piloted last January.
Ho Tien Thieu, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee and Head of the Steering Committee on Digital Transformation of Lang Son Province, said he hopes after being piloted in Lang Son province, the digital border gate model will be replicated nationwide.
“The Ministry of Information and Communications and the National Committee on Digital Transformation have specified the digital platform for the management and operation for functional forces and harmonizing the interests of related parties,” Thieu added.
Lang Son is the first province in Vietnam to have applied digital technology in managing border gates. The province’s digital border gate model has been praised by the business community, who are the direct beneficiaries.
Pham Tuan Hoang, Deputy Director General of Xuan Cuong Company which offers parking and logistics services at Huu Nghi International Border Gate, said that his business has always updated technology solutions and sped up digital transformation towards becoming a digital business.
Hoang said, “To meet the future needs of digital transformation, we hope all the software of state management agencies will be connected with each other to share the information about technology, goods, and vehicles in a more convenient way.”

Each agency in the border gate area, such as customs or border security, has separate management software in accordance to their tasks. But connecting and sharing data among the platforms and the information systems of ministries and sectors remain difficult.
Nguyen Anh Tai, Deputy Director of the provincial Customs Department, said the digital border gate platform will address all issues relating to its system administration and data management, meeting the requirements of State management.
According to Tai, the Department will continue to review the functions of the digital border gate platform to make it synchronized with the smart customs system.
“The Lang Son Customs Department will continue to train its personnel in operating the smart customs system and the digital border gate platform in order to make the two systems reciprocal and the customs operations more transparent,” said Tai.
The pilot of a digital border gate in Lang Son province is a role model to develop a national digital border gate system, which will help strengthen the State management at the central and local levels in preventing negative phenomena and better serving the people and businesses.
With the digital border gate platform and smart border gate in the future, Lang Son is expected to maximize its potential and strengths in the border economy, thereby modernizing the border gate area and promoting trade exchanges between Vietnam and China.
