14th National Assembly’s last sitting to fill State leadership positions

(VOVWORLD) - The 11th and last sitting of the 14th National Assembly, opened in Hanoi on Wednesday, attended by Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, war veterans, diplomats, and deputies.

In her opening remarks, Chairwoman Ngan said the sitting comes at a time when Vietnam is implementing the resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and preparing for the election of deputies to the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 tenure.

The National Assembly over the past five years have made great efforts to fulfill all its tasks and added to the achievements that have lifted Vietnam’s international prestige and consolidated public trust in the Party and State.

Madam Ngan outlined the agenda of the sitting, “During this session, we will review what we have done and what we have not in legislative, executive, and judicial fields. We will draw lessons from this for renovating the National Assembly’s operation and ushering in a new development period. This meeting marks the transition of tenure for the State agencies.”

The National Assembly will take a detailed look at performance reports of the President, the Government, the Supreme People’s Court, and the Supreme People’s Procuracy, and last’s year socio-economic development plan will be reviewed.

Deputies will devote time to filling State leadership positions, deciding the number of full-time deputies from the Hanoi municipal People’s Council, and vote on the revised Law on Drug Prevention and Control that was scrutinized during the previous meeting.
