Many support activities for children have been held across Vietnam during the 2015 Action Month for Children from June 1-30.

Dang Hoa Nam, director of the Department of Child Protection and Care of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, explains the month of actions’ theme, namely ‘Listening to children’s voices’:

This month of actions is an opportunity to mobilize all-out efforts to implement policies lenient relating to children’s right to participate and raise their voices as recognized by the 2013 Constitution. We selected the theme to highlight adults’ primary role in creating conditions for children to express their opinions, respond to children’s aspirations. We welcome reports on children’s right violations and pledge to work with ministries and agencies to address emerging issues.

Over the years, the Vietnamese Party and government have spent all resources for children’s development. 25 years ago Vietnam adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child which includes the rights to live, to develop, to be protected, and to participate.

These basic rights have received much attention and been ensured in Vietnam. The Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs set up a hotline to counsel and assist children in 2004.

Vu Van Dung, the director of the Center for Consultancy and Communications Service, the operator of the helpline, said:

The counseling and support telephone line is an official channel to receive public feedback about the implementation of children’s rights and policies at the grassroots level. It’s also the official channel for us to get children’s voices about their aspirations, wishes, and desires through which we are alerted on violations of children’s rights for immediate settlement.

During the action month in June, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC) will splash out a total amount of about 920,000 USD for humanitarian activities including corrective surgery for children with facial and eye defects, screening examination of congenital heart diseases in children.
