Free vouchers worth 13 USD have been handed out to needy people, who are invited to come to the Zero Dong Mart-Share Mart to pick up food and other necessities that are unaffordable for them under the current social distancing mandate. Clothing donated by the public line the shelves, too. The Mart delivers food to the local People’s Committee, which then delivers it to people in locked down areas who can’t come to the Mart.

Vu Minh Ly, who initiated the Zero Dong Mart-Share Mart, says that in the coming weeks, his project will reach out to the needy via the app Zalo Connect. Homeless poor people who live far from the mart will also be given free vouchers.

“We are collaborating with the Youth Employment Service Center of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to operate this Zero Dong Mart-Share Mart in response to an appeal for welfare packages to help the poor. Our Mart is located at the T-junction of Ba Dinh, Dong Da, and Tay Ho district. I think the location is pretty accessible,” Ly said.

The first Zero Dong Mart-Share Mart opened in early September at the Geleximco urban area in Hanoi’s outlying Hoai Duong district.
