3.1 million COVID-19 deaths reported globally

(VOVWORLD) - A total of 150 million COVID-19 cases had been reported globally as of Thursday noon. More than 3.1 million have died, according to worldometers.info.

The US leads the world in number of infections (33 million) and number of deaths (588,000), followed by India, which just broke its own single day record of new infections (360,000) and deaths (3,300). The World Health Organization says the Indian strain of COVID-19, an extremely virulent mutation, has been found in 17 countries. Countries around the world have increased their donations of medical equipment and supplies to help India battle the virus.

Large cities in Southeast Asia are suffering a COVID-19 infection surge. As of Wednesday, Laos had detected 604 cases, 555 of them in April alone and most were locally transmitted.

On Wednesday, Cambodia had recorded over 11,700 infections, of which 88 have died.
