36th Session of ECLAC opens in Mexico

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the 36th Session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). President Peña Nieto underlined that Mexico continues to be an agent for the integration and development of Latin America and the Caribbean. He said ECLAC’s work is indispensable for building a united development region and implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He called for close ties among regional countries in order to turn Latin America into a prosperous region, creating opportunities for all people. He added that a Specialized Technical Committee was recently set up to oversee the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

ECLAC General Secretary Alicia Bárcena Ibarra called on Latin America to redouble its efforts to fulfill UN sustainable development goals.
