5 candidates advance in UK Prime Minister race

(VOVWORLD) - The UK Prime Minister race narrowed its candidate list to 5 after former Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab was knocked out in the latest MP ballot.

Mr. Raab was eliminated by coming last with 30 votes, 3 fewer than the minimum needed to progress. Former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson once again came top of the ballot with 126 votes, 12 more than in the first round.

The next ballot will take place later this week, and the candidate with the fewest votes will be eliminated. The 2 candidates receiving most support will be running for a vote at the plenary meeting of 160,000 members of Conservative Party on Saturday. The winner of this vote will be the new leader of the Conservative Party, who will replace Theresa May to be the new Prime Minister of the UK.
