50th anniversary of Kent State protest against war in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - Images of Kent State university students protesting the war in Vietnam were posted all over social media on Monday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the event.

On May 4, 1970, the Ohio National Guard open fired on a group of Kent State University students as they protested against the war by US forces in Vietnam. Four students were killed and nine were injured. According to H.R. Haldeman, one of the top assistant to President Richard Nixon, the event had an immediate impact on the US political scene and was one of the factors that helped put an end to the war.

Kent State University had planned to hold a commemoration program on campus, but was forced to hold it online program because of Covid-19 social distancing rules.
