Additional 1.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine arrive in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - Nearly 1.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX scheme arrived in Vietnam on Sunday.

The AstraZaneca vaccine, supplied by the global vaccine sharing initiative COVAX Facility and delivered by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), will be distributed to all agencies and localities to speed up the national vaccination drive, especially for priority groups, according to Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long.

This is the second batch from COVAX in addition to the shipment of more than 810,000 doses of AstraZeneca on April 1.

Countries, orgnizations, and manufacturers have pledged to provide Vietnam 110 million doses of AstraZeneca and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines this year.

The Health Ministry has also been working to access other sources of COVID-19 vaccines, including Moderna and Johnson&Johnson (the US), CureVac (Germany), Spunik V (Russia), and Sinopharm (China).
