Advancing Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership

(VOVworld)Vietnamese ambassador to China Nguyen Van Tho has highlighted the significance of President Truong Tan Sang’s 3-day visit to China from Wednesday. At interviews with media, ambassador Tho said during the visit, President Sang will hold talks with Chinese President and party chief Xi Jinping and meet with other senior leaders to seek ways to deepen the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership and international issues of mutual concerns. Tho noted that 2 of the 3 historical issues have been settled, namely land borders and the Tonkin Gulf. Both countries still differ over the East Sea issues. The two countries’ leaders have reached an agreement on fundamental principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues based on friendly consultation, frank discussions, equality, respect for each other’s interest and interventional law, including the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea towards a Code of Conduct.

Ambassador Tho said he believed that with both sides’ efforts and determination, the Vietnam-China economic and trade cooperation will flourish, contributing to bilateral strategic partnership.
