Agro-forestry-fisheries exports to exceed 27.5 billion USD

(VNA) - The export turnover of agro-forestry-fisheries products is estimated to gross more than 27.5 billion USD this year, an increase of 9.7 percent, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported on Tuesday.

Of the total, staples account for over 16.9 billion USD, with coffee, pepper, and tea maintaining a stable growth during the year. Vietnam shipped 1.76 million tonnes of coffee abroad, worth 3.7 billion USD, a rise of 40 percent in volume and 36 percent in value over the previous year. The US and Germany are the two largest importers of Vietnamese coffee with 12 percent of market share each. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam exported more than 8 million tonnes of rice, earning 3.7 billion USD, a rise of 14 percent in volume and 2.1 percent in value over last year.  Meanwhile, the export of aquatic products fetched an estimated 6.15 billion USD, up 0.7 percent over 2011. The US is still Vietnam’s top seafood importer, accounting for 19.5 percent of market share, followed by Japan with nearly 18 percent, and the Republic of Korea with 8 percent.
