Art program marks 55th anniversary of Truong Bon victory

(VOVWORLD) - An art program called “Truong Bon – Heroic Footprints” was held on Sunday at the Truong Bon historical site in Nghe An province, to celebrate the 55th anniversary of a revolutionary victory at the Truong Bon Mountain pass on October 31, 1968.

At Truong Bon, 13 young volunteer soldiers of the “Steel Platoon” heroically sacrificed their lives to ensure the transportation of supplies to the southern battlefield.

Nguyen Xuan Thang, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Chairman of the Central Theory Council, reviewed the heroic history of Nghe An, the homeland of President Ho Chi Minh, and honored those who laid down their lives at Truong Bon.

Thang said he hopes more gratitude activities will continue to receive the entire society’s participation.

“Businesses and people nationwide should join hands to provide better care for the material and spiritual lives of the relatives of martyrs, war invalids, sick soldiers, veterans, former volunteer youths, and revolutionary contributors. A long-term plan is needed to preserve and promote the historical and cultural values of Truong Bon national historical relic site,” Mr. Thang noted.

As a strategic route for the transport of food, weapons, and ammunition from the north to the southern front during the anti-US war, Truong Bon became a target for destruction by the US, as the site was hit by 19,000 bombs and thousands of rockets, within four years between 1964 and 1968.
