ASEAN, China to work on search, rescue in East Sea

(VOVworld) – ASEAN and China will intensify cooperation on search and rescue services for distressed fishermen and vessels in the East Sea. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi announced that a 3-day conference on this theme will be held in Hanoi from next Tuesday. Nghi said that the meeting will be under the ASEAN-China working plan, guiding the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

This conference will enable participants to establish trust through search and rescue cooperation, evaluate the needs of any joint efforts in the support of distressed fishermen and vessels in the East Sea. It will also study the factors influencing cooperative humanitarian aids and propose specific measures for closer links in this field.

Present at the conference will be government officials, scholars, and experts from ASEAN members and China.
