The person allegedly committed the attack to protest Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip. The unidentified attacker was carrying a gun when he entered the Procter & Gamble factory in the Gebze industrial zone.

It is not clear how many workers are being held hostage. Police have blockaded the area and are trying to persuade the attacker to surrender. Turkish officials have not yet made any comment.
