Vietnam’s Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung called the signing an important milestone in the bilateral strategic partnership. The MoU will create a legal framework for Vietnamese citizens to more easily enter Australia to work in the agriculture sector.

Mahar said the program is crucial to helping Australia's agriculture sector address a work force shortage that could amount to 70 billion USD by 2030.

Australian Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud said Australia’s agriculture sector is short about 20,000 workers. The visa program will accept 1,000 skilled, semi-skilled, and low-skilled foreign workers every year in fisheries, forestry, dairy farming, and farming, particularly grain and wool.
