Bulgaria, a member of the EU, and Vietnam, a dynamic member of ASEAN, have an enormous potential for cooperation in economics, culture, and education, said Mr. Jeliazkov.

He said Bulgaria can be a gateway for Vietnam to enter the European market and Vietnam can be a bridge for Bulgaria to access the ASEAN market.

On this occasion, Speaker Jeliazkov awarded the Bulgarian NA’s certificate of merit to six Vietnamese individuals with outstanding achievements in people-to-people diplomacy and important contributions to the two countries’ friendship and solidarity.

30,000 Vietnamese people studied and worked in Bulgaria in the 1950-1980 period. About 1,000 are in Bulgaria now.
